Service Description

This monthly book club is suitable for formal B1 - B2 learners. It comprises 12 x 90 minute sessions on the last Friday of each month of 2026 at 6pm , except for December which will be on Friday the 18th. The text we will be reading together is 'Tuathanas nan Creutairean' a splendid Gaelic translation by Angus Peter Campbell of George Orwell's 'Animal Farm'. Language Proficiency self-assessment link if needed: https://www.learngaelic.net/clag/learners/index.jsp#screen7 The text (Tuathanas nan Creutairean), context and resources are similar to those of the Advanced Learner and Fluents book club (C1+ Advanced) so please do have a read of that listing. Bilingual Cribsheets and Worksheets will be provided in advance of each monthly session. You will be expected to have access to your own copy of the novel for the year ahead. The B1 - B2 Book Club should suit those who have completed or are near completion of a Gaelic language diploma at a reputable institution. It might suit some independent self-directed learners. If you are uncertain of these levels then very likely an A1 or A2 group would be a much more useful starting point for developing your skills. To that end, A1/A2 groups will start in late March and will be listed here at the end of February. This group differs from the C1+ group as follows: At B1 - B2 Level there is greater emphasis on support towards intelligibility (pronunciation, cadence, flow) and practical assistance towards comprehension of complex sentence structures. There is a dual emphasis on: Developing intelligibility, prosody and flow of speech, Skills and approaches for improved deciphering and comprehension of complex sentences. This will mean that, at times, we focus on a key paragraph for language complexity or prosody rather than its literary elements and devices. Having said that, you will have the same crib-sheets and worksheets as those completing the Advanced short course, and part of each session will be dedicated to enjoying those aspects of the text. This setting will be 'bilingual-cordial' to allow for technical questions, and as with all other short courses will be a respectfully moderated safe space for all.
